Since 2002, Franchesca Warren has advocated for equity for all students by promoting literacy as a fundamental right for all students- first and foremost, as a teacher, instructional coach, Literacy Coordinator in both Memphis, Atlanta, and Marietta City Schools and now as parent advocate and consultant with stakeholders around the world. As a result, she is considered one of the emerging voices in urban education for students and parents.
Always in search of a way to amplify teacher’s voice, Franchesca developed her craft by creating an education think tank, The Educator’s Room, which focuses on teacher education and self-care and traveling around the country helping teachers develop their own expertise. Inspired by her nearly 15 years in the classroom, time collaborating with Instructional Coaches, and work as a Literacy Coordinator, Franchesca has authored several books for teachers, many of which have been used with teachers around the country. In addition, she has served on several boards with NCTE, GCTE, and other professional education organizations. In 2015, she was selected out of hundreds of applications to be part of Harvard’s Turnaround School Leader Training where she collaborated with school leaders from around the world on how to tackle the inequities found in many of her schools. As a Literacy Coordinator, Franchesca helped lead the work with Marietta City Schools as they worked to develop a new assessment tool for literacy in grades 6-12. As part of her work, Marietta was one only a handful of states granted the waiver to begin the work of replacing the statewide assessment.
Inspired by her experience in creating solutions in schools and in 2016 Franchesca founded the parent think tank, South Fulton Parents for Education, where she galvanized a group of parents to demand equity for schools south of the I-20 Corridor. Through the strategic works of these parents, they have been able to move forward with the work of several initiatives including- South Fulton Mental Health Collaborative. To date, this group boasts thousands of parents working to improve outcomes for families around literacy, STEAM and mental health.
Outside of her daily work with students and educators, Franchesca is a wife and mom to 4 kids and one dog. Her oldest son is a Westlake graduate who currently attends school at George Washington University and interns on Capitol Hill. Her other three kids are all students in South Fulton ranging from Kindergarten to sixth grade. In 2012, Franchesca was selected as the Teacher of the Year for the 2012-2013 school year and a Difference Maker for Atlanta Public Schools. She’s presented at national conferences including but not limited to NCTE, GCTE, ASCD Educational Leadership Conference to name a few. In addition, she’s been featured on Fox 5 News Atlanta, Fox 13 Memphis, The Jennifer Keitt Show, The Huffington Post, Staff Loungin, Education Week and several other media outlets.
